Below given is an in-depth review of iRobot Roomba 960
Roomba 960 is a round-shaped, low-profile robot vacuum with black and light gray body accents. It measures 13.8 inches in diameter and stands 3.6 inches tall. The Roomba 960 flaunts a classy and elegant matte finish.
The top surface comes with a large ‘Clean’ button, surrounded by two small buttons viz. ‘Home’ and ‘Spot’ cleaning buttons. Above these buttons, there are indicator lights to prompt different functions. Right in the center, there’s a camera for easy navigation. The aesthetically pleasing handle is built right into the device for easy pick-up.
The 8.5 pounds of Roomba 960 is lighter than 980 model and features the same motor as found in the older Roomba 880. Hence, the 960 kind of suffers on the carpet.
With its Lithium-Ion battery, 960 can zoom around for about 75 minutes, after which it might need to return back to Home Base Charging Dock for recharging.
AeroForce® 3-Stage Cleaning System
Designed for deep cleaning, Roomba 960 features tangle-free multi-surface brushes and power-lifting suction having 5x more air power than older 600 and 700 vacuum series. It pulls-in all kinds of debris, dust and pet hair from the floor.
There’s another Edge-Sweeping Brush on the side designed at a 27-degree angle that pushes debris and dust from corners and edges of floors towards the center. Two multi-surface, counter-rotating roller brushes then work together to suck it off the floor.
Large Bin with new HEPA filters
At the back, there is a large bin with new removable HEPA filters. This high-efficiency filter captures 99% of mites, dust, allergens, etc. that are as tiny as 10 microns. Whenever the robot prompts with ‘Fill Bin’ indicator, you need to empty the bin at the back.
Wi-Fi connectivity and iRobot Home App
Roomba 960 has unique feature of Wi-Fi connectivity, so you can control the robot remotely via iRobot Home App.
You can download the app from Google Play or Apple App Store.
iRobot Home app lets you choose the number of times 960 cleans any room. In Performance menu, there are different stats displaying total area cleaned, time taken, etc.
You can ask your robot to start cleaning by prompting ‘Clean’ on the app, even when you are at gym or in office as long as you are connected to the internet. Plus, this flexible app allows you to schedule its cleaning cycle for each day, at a specific time.
There are three cleaning-pass settings in the app:
- One-cleaning pass: The 960 robot vacuum will make a single pass over a specific area for cleaning.
- Two-cleaning pass: The 960 robot vacuum will make a pass twice over cleaned areas for meticulous cleaning.
- Automatic: Roomba 960 will decide on its own as to how many passes it will make for a particular room.
Above all, it also supports iRobot’s Clean Map feature. So you can now see a map of areas that your 960 robot has vacuumed.
Roomba 960 is also compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa voice assistance.
Most of the vacuum bots in the market have random cleaning patterns, which can result in uneven cleaning. But, Roomba 960 uses a methodical cleaning pattern to maneuver systematically around obstacles and furniture, without missing any spot. Its low-profile body can effortlessly pass through sofas, beds and other hard-to-reach areas.
iAdapt 2.0 Camera and myriads of sensors help it to track its own navigation, without banging into obstacles.
With onboard camera, there are plethora of sensors installed into the robot for mapping out your home.
Roomba 960 uses Dirt Detect™ Technology featuring smart sensors. These sensors detect areas with concentrated amounts of debris, dirt, etc. and directs the robot to clean them thoroughly.
Virtual Wall Barrier
iRobot Roomba 960 comes with just one Dual-Mode Virtual Wall Barrier.
This device acts like a wall and makes use of infrared signals to create a barrier for a specific area. This will prevent the 960 from entering this blocked area.
Roomba 960 might not be as powerful as Roomba 980 in terms of Carpet cleaning, as the later one comes with carpet boost feature. But, 960 is still capable of cleaning low pile carpets.
It might not deep clean thick carpets, but it is optimal to use as an everyday cleaner to prevent dust from piling up onto carpets.
Pet Hair Extraction
Roomba 960 features the same rotating rubber extractors as in the 980 model. Hence, it can pick up pet hair efficiently.
iRobot backs their Roomba 960 variant with a 1-year warranty on robot vacuum and 6 months warranty on battery.
If you don’t mind its slightly higher price tag and if your home does not use thick carpeting, Roomba 960 is ideal robot vacuum for you.
